Today, I wanted to provide you guys with an amazing cartoon recommendation! This is one especially for fans of shows like Gravity Falls! The cartoon is one from the early 2010s called Detentionaire!
It’s about a high school student named Lee, who, on his first day of tenth grade, gets framed for a huge prank and gets detention for a whole year. Now, he spends every day trying to find out who set him up. However, he soon realizes that the prank was a small component to a huge conspiracy that involves government projects, clones, prophesied events, monsters and even his own family.
If you love shows like Gravity Falls, I would definitely check it out! It is quite similar in terms of the amount of mystery it has in it, and it has a lot of lore. If I were to describe it in any way, I would say it is what you get when you combine Gravity Falls with Total Drama - the characters are all teenagers, but the show has an overarching mystery, and it gets more and more paranormal as it goes on.
One thing I will say is that the first few episodes are a bit slow, which may turn some away, but once it picks up, it is amazing. It is definitely one of the best cartoons of the 2010s, and it deserves more attention, so if you are looking for a new cartoon, I’d check it out!

Also, I just want to say that if there are any cartoons you find underrated, please make me aware! Detentionaire was a series which was screwed over by the network, and this led to it not being too well known. As a fan, I would love nothing more than to see it grow in terms of popularity, and I would also love to give more shows a shot as so many get swept under the radar!
Sometimes being an artist is feeling like a baker seeing a chemist making the deadliest liquid in the world and wishing you could make the deadliest liquid as well but you’re a baker, not a chemist, and then you feel like your bread is worthless
If it helps, as a writer with artist friends often feels like being a chemist surrounded by bakers. I’ll spend ages coming up with a hypothesis and then lock myself away for weeks or months only to emerge with a small vial of glowing liquid. Yes it took a lot of work, and yes I’m proud that I’ve created it, but it pales when I look across at the bakers. In the same time, they’ve made so many delicious things that make living a delight. Chances are they’ve fed me and kept me from despair while I was locked in my lab. And I envy their wonderful craft.

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn’t need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.
It’s not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it’s the type of interaction people have. They’re content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.
Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.
If you want more of something, reblog it.
Something I see mentioned often is “I don’t have many followers, my reblog won’t matter” which is untrue.
First ofall, reblogging, commenting and interacting is how you start gathering your own micro community, second of all— you literally do not know how far a single reblog from you could go in the long run.
For instance, let’s say you only have one person reblog from you, and that person only have one person who reblogged from them also, and so on, and somewhere ten reblogs down the line a very large blog reblogs it and boom, the post is getting more and more exposure!
You see, it does not matter if you don’t have a large following so long as you cultivate a micro community with the people you do enjoy interacting daily with.
As you can see in the second picture I added, most of the reblogs were between very small groups of people, and occasionally it’ll lapse into a large blog that would create a bigger reblog pool. BUT STILL. Saying that you don’t have many followers and so it doesn’t matter if you don’t reblog is UNTRUE.
Even if someone just randomly wanders into your blog one day, it’s beneficial for both sides because A. Seeing you reblog content they like might be enough for them to follow you B. They would be exposed to new content creators they didn’t know previously and might also follow / reblog from them!
So yes, do not underestimate what your reblogs and words mean, just because you’re not ‘big’ or whatever. It is not how tumblr works!!

Once again, I am BEGGING people to realize that tumblr tags are a filing system and not a visibility metric.
One does not come to tumblr to tag-spam for notes and get popular. There is no algorithm here. There is no monetization here. There are no influencers here.
This is where every other social media system comes to die. And we cackle and roast marshmallows on the pyre like the gremlins we are.
If you tag-spam to get your post seen by as many people as possible you are actually getting blocked by a bunch of people pissed off that you shoved an unrelated post into a tag they were looking through for relevant content. You also are going to be reported by people for spam. Because you are spamming.
So the idea that the only way to write a marginalized character is “without faults” is problematic no matter which marginalized group it is, but it’s particularly fucked-up when people apply this to POC or to disabled/neurodivergent characters, because in fact portraying those two groups in particular as saintly and faultless is its ownharmfultropewith alonghistory. It’s often used to imply that someone in one of those groups is not capable of being bad, is simpler than white people or non-disabled people. And as we all know that broad patterns in fiction can affect real life, it also puts high expectations on real-life marginalized people when they see the message over and over – even in their fandom spaces where they go to relax! – that their stories are only valuable if they’re perfect.
And this misconception seems to be common with people across multiple demographic groups, but in a few different fandoms I’m in, the most outspoken “writing POC as having faults is racist” people are my fellow whites, and like, look, I know it’s hard when you never had a media studies class and are getting all your info about that from this webbed site, but if you’re white you really need to think long and hard about why that idea appeals to you so much
Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.
